Series 3603AXT: Mechanically & Electrically Filtered Triaxial IEPE Accelerometer with TEDS

July 5, 2018 – Chatsworth, California, USA – Dytran Instruments, Inc. (www.dytran.com) a leading manufacturer of piezoelectric and DC MEMS sensors announces the release of Series 3603AXT, a mechanically and electrically filtered range of IEPE triaxial accelerometers designed to minimize “zero-shift” in vibration environments where ultra-high frequency excitation is also present.

Series 3603AXT sensors feature mechanical and electrical filters that allow them to continuously measure baseline vibration data after a high g event such as an explosion or metal-to-metal shock.  The filters protect against amplifier saturation and/or signal over-range that can lead to zero (“baseline”) shift. This series was originally designed to address accelerometer saturation induced by applications where secondary high frequency mechanical vibration or a high shock, metal-to-metal impact exceeded the bandwidth of the accelerometer. This innovative design enables the sensor to acquire vibration data in the presence of pyro-shock events such as space vehicle stage separation.

Each sensor contains three piezoceramic planar shear sensing elements that are suspended inside the housing with a set of supports designed to stop high frequency propagation into the element structure. The sensing elements are isolated from case ground and are enclosed by a Faraday shield for better noise immunity. The attenuation of mechanical resonance plus the two-pole electrical filter provide effective -24dB/octave signal reduction with a corner frequency at approximately 8kHz.

The lightweight, hermetically sealed titanium case has an industry standard ¼-28 4-pin connector and can easily be installed using a 10-32 mounting hole. Units are TEDS enabled and are compatible with any IEPE power source. Available in three ranges; 500g, 1000g, and 5000g’s. Applications include metal-to-metal impact, high frequency application, simulated far field pyrotechnic shock, package drop testing, space vehicle stage separation testing, and engine NVH/cylinder head vibration testing.
